Looking Glass Plastic Surgery offers a variety of peels that cater to different skin care needs. There are different reasons why the skin may need a peel, but the primary goal of a peel is to stimulate new cell growth by exfoliating the skin, which helps with the reduction of fine lines, hyper pigmentation, and acne. Peels are a jump start into returning the skin into a healthy state.

Frequently Asked Questions about Chemical Peels
- Q: How often should I get a peel?
- A: The frequency of peels depends on the patient’s skin and the depth of the peel. Superficial peels can be done once a month, medium depth peel can be done every 2 to 3 months depending on the skin type and deep peels like the TCA should be done no more than one time a year.
- Q: Why is sun exposure not good for the skin during a peel?
- A: When the skin is peeling it is sloughing of the top layer of skin the stratum cornea therefore the skin underneath is sensitive and can easily hyper pigment (dark spots) from the sun. Melanin protects the skin from the sun’s ultraviolet rays therefore the sun’s ultraviolet rays stimulate melanocytes (cells that produce pigment) in the skin which creates hyper pigmentation. Major sun exposure during a peel or 2 weeks after a peel can result in hyper pigmentation.
