What are Gluteal Implants?
Perfected in Brazil, buttock augmentation with solid silicone implants is gaining popularity in this country, especially among people with HIV-related lipoatrophy of the buttocks. The implants are placed through a mid-line incision which heals to be inconspicuous. The implants sit under the fascial covering of the gluteus maximus muscle in a position high enough that one does not actually sit on the implants. The implants mimic the feel of well worked-out gluteus muscles without doing a lot of squats at the gym.
The Surgical Procedure
The surgery takes about two hours to perform and involves general anesthetic and usually an overnight stay in the hospital. The exact cost of this procedure varies depending on the extent of the procedure. The surgery package price includes the surgeon's fee, the anesthesiologist's fee, and the hospital and operating room expenses. A gluteal implant procedure can range $7,000 to $8,500.
What to Expect After Gluteal Implant Surgery
Patients find they must spend most of their time lying on their side. The tenderness and swelling start to subside after a few days.
