Scar Revision
The manner in which an individual forms scars can be as unique and unpredictable as the individual. Many factors are involved in wound healing, only some of which are under our control. Scars continue to improve for at least two years following the initial injury or revision.
High-tech tricks to minimize the appearance of a scar include changing the direction of the scar to run parallel to the lines of relaxed skin tension, shortening or lengthening the scar in one direction and the opposite in the other, or shifting the scar’s location and shape in relation to other anatomical structures to make it less obvious. Often scar revision can be performed with local anesthesia and a recovery period of a week to ten days.
Face-to-face consultation with Dr. DeWeese is necessary in order to determine if you would benefit from a scar revision. The cost of the procedure depends on whether the procedure can be performed in the office or needs to be done in the hospital. This can range from $500 up to several thousand dollars.Request Consultation »
