Bringing out the beauty in women and men

Skin Care

Nowhere does age leave its imprint more deeply than on the face. Many factors contribute to facial wrinkling and discoloration including sun exposure, smoking, improper diet and nutrition, alcohol consumption, stress and heredity.

Facial rejuvenation treatment may involve procedures to reduce signs of aging in the mid-face, lower face and neck, as well as the eyelids, forehead and eyebrow areas. Treatments to minimize fine skin lines may also be performed. Frequently, multiple facial procedures can be performed at the same time.

Your skin care plan will be individualized to address your specific needs and personal objectives.

About your Esthetician

Kamilah CrawfordKamilah Crawford graduated from the University of Michigan with a BA in communication in 2001. She became an esthetician in 2003 after attending Paris Beauty College in Concord, CA.

Skin care is not just her career, it is her a passion. As a teenager she experienced acne and hyper pigmentation. Once she discovered that there are correcting treatments for the skin, she fell in love with skin care. Maintaining, correcting skin conditions and helping to bring the skin to a healthy form is her goal for every patient.

It is important too that we nourish the outside of our bodies as well as the inside - it is my pleasure to give care and treatment to the largest organ of the body, the skin.

More info about Chirality

D+L Alanine chiral moleculesThe most important molecules of life are Chiral. Chiral molecules are exactly the same in every way, like our hands they are perfect mirror images of each other. In a way they are exact opposites. An example of this is amino acids, our body uses only left handed amino acids. Notice on your protein formulations words like L-glutamic acid or L-proline, right handed amino acids do exist, but your body can't use them.

What happens if the wrong-handed molecule is used? It depends on the molecule, but in the late 1950's and early 1960's Thalidomide was given to pregnant women as a morning sickness drug. The drug company supplied a mixture of both left handed and right-handed Thalidomide because it was easily produced. One hand is a good sedative the other causes birth defects. The drug company knew about the drug chirality, but did not investigate the real consequences, therefore resulting in thousands of horrible birth defects.

Q: Is Chirality New?
A: Louis Pasteur discovered chirality in 1848 while studying tartaric acid from wine making. He found two tartaric acids on the mirror image of the other like our hands.

Q: Why have I not heard of Chirality before?
A: Chirality is the fastest growing investment by drug companies. Drug companies admit to past mistakes of ignoring chirality for so long, because of the expense it takes to make ingredients chiral, however the FDA now mandates that all pharmaceutical medications are chirally corrected and now science has discovered chirally correct skin care products also have a better effect for the skin.

Q: How does Chirality Impact Skin Care?
A: The body’s receptors are all chiral. They are like gloves made to fit only over the correct hand. Skin care products need to be chirally correct for the proper fit onto the skin ‘s receptors. This results in the most effective product with the fewest side effects.

A Lesson on Chirality

Limonene constitutes about 322 varieties in plants, most notably citrus. If you were to buy Limonene either natural or synthetic you would be getting a mixture of L-Limonene and D-Limonene. This is the way it occurs in man’s laboratory and nature’s laboratory. These molecules are mirror images of one another left handed limonene (L- Limonene) and right handed limonene (D -Limonene) It is a hard to believe that molecules as similar as your two hands could be so different, but they are very different.

They smell different and taste different, but more importantly D-Limonene (The right handed one) is the industrial twin and the L-Limonene (the left handed one) is the medicinal twin.

D-Limonene is a popular industrial cleanser, degreaser and tire solvent (for recycling tires). D-Limonene is a powerful promoter of free radicals and is known to increase the likelihood of birth effects, but more importantly it blocks the beneficial effects of L-Limonene and other chiral essences in nature, many of which are lifesaving and life giving. L-Limonene can prevent the growth of cancer, suppresses the production of gall stones, reduces the risk and progression of Alzheimer’s, enhances memory, is a powerful anti-viral in the body, is anti-fungal and is a good sedative. Therefore using the twin Limonene as they occur in nature and in the lab is risky.

Another example why chirality is important is in Mexico people were receiving a cancer treatment called LATERILE. This is a natural ingredient of apricot pits. Its chemical name is AMYGDALIN. This is an alkaloid that is very toxic to the rapidly dividing cancer cells. Unfortunately it has a split personality due to its chirality. Amygdalin is a mixture of L and D i.e. left-handed and right-handed Amygdalin. One is toxic to just the cancer cells the other is toxic to normal cells. It is cheaper to market the whole, natural extract of apricot pits containing both L and D than to separate the good hand from the bad hand therefore the drug did not produce the intended effect of treating cancer.

Taxol from the Yew tree is used in treating breast cancer. In its natural form you get the L-Taxol and the D-Taxol. Only the L-Taxol has the intended anti-cancer effects while D-Taxol causes more toxicity to the body than the cancer.

Nicotine is chiral. It occurs in tobacco as the left handed nicotine, but right handed nicotine is much less addictive and much less toxic.

These are just a few examples of the importance of being chirally correct.Request Consultation »
